AGRICULTURE AND HORTICULTURE TAUPO, NEW ZEALAND
Farmers - and an increasing number of land-use entrepreneurs - are moving to the Taupo district because we are a relatively young region in terms of agriculture and horticulture, with considerable scope for further development compared with many other regions of New Zealand.
From East to West, sheep and beef cattle dominate the rural scene; in the northern reaches, where pasture growth is greater, there is a strong preference for dairy farming.

Agriculture occupies 187,861 ha or 29.6% of the Lake Taupo District's total land area.
Sustainable land use is a mainstay of our district's economy, and its future is exciting. Lake Taupo Development Company is helping to shape that future by playing a key role in identifying potential new land uses that provide improved yields, more jobs, and opportunities for further value-added processing within the district.
