In 2002, citizens of the Taupo District - through a process that engaged more than 1000 participants - defined a growth plan for the district. As the Economic Development Agency, Lake Taupo Development Company has taken a leadership role in implementing the strategies defined in that growth plan.

Lake Taupo Development Company's mission is to help ensure a successful and prosperous future for the Taupo District of New Zealand while protecting our most valuable asset: Lake Taupo. With an emphasis on producing measurable results through community action and enterprise, Lake Taupo Development Company focuses on 8 key areas: education, energy, forestry and wood processing, agriculture and horticulture, Maori economic development, community economic development in Turangi and Mangakino, and support for innovation and entrepreneurship.
